Becoming a member means joining a community that helps guide and shape St Sidwell’s Community Centre’s future. Membership is free and open to everyone. It gives people who care about our work a voice in how we grow and develop.
In line with our ethos of inclusion, we want our membership to be diverse and democratic. You might already be a volunteer, neighbour, supporter, centre user, or staff member — becoming a member is a great way to get more involved.
What is membership?
St Sidwell’s Community Centre is a charitable company. The Directors (also known as Trustees) are members of the charitable company, and there are also other members — people who are interested in our work and want to take part in its governance.
Governance means helping to make sure the charity uses its money and resources wisely, follows the law, manages risk, and stays true to its purpose.
While members do not take part in the day-to-day running of the Centre, they can join working groups to share their experience, skills, and knowledge to support projects and activities.
We also encourage members to learn about trusteeship and consider standing as a trustee in the future — it’s a great way to deepen your involvement and help guide the charity’s direction.
What are your rights as a member?
As a member, you will:
- Be invited to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Have the right to vote on key matters, such as receiving the annual accounts, electing trustees, or making changes to our governing document which control what the Charity does.
What are your responsibilities as a member?
As a member, you must:
- Always act in the best interests of the Charity, and not for personal gain.
- Support and uphold the values of St Sidwell’s Community Centre:
- Inclusion
- Compassion
- Participation
- Respect
- Promise to contribute a sum of up to £10.00 if the Charity is ever dissolved (closes).
