St Sidwell's Community Centre

Volunteering

Community Bakery Role

The Sidwell Street Bakehouse Volunteer Community Baker role provides an opportunity to gain practical baking experience while supporting a community-focused organisation within Exeter. As part of St Sidwell’s Community Centre, the Bakehouse makes sourdough products, sweet and savory that get delivered across Exeter to wholesale customers as well as being sold in The Sidwell Street Bakehouse shop.

Volunteers work alongside the staff team and can contribute to baking, pastry production, customer service, or a combination of these areas.

Responsibilities may include maintaining sourdough starters, mixing and shaping dough, baking products, preparing orders, cleaning and organising the bakery, and supporting daily operations. There may also be opportunities to assist with markets, events, and bread deliveries by electric cargo bike.

This role is ideal for individuals interested in baking, sustainable food systems, and learning new skills. Volunteers gain valuable experience in food production, teamwork, and community engagement while working in a busy, supportive, and professional bakery environment.
